RETREAT 2025

Greetings Spinners!

You are invited to the 2025 Spinning Retreat!!

2025 REGISTRATION FORM

PAYMENT DUE BY JUNE 1ST

NOTE: Setting up the kitchen on Wednesday evening (June 11th). Food will not be provided this day. Anyone planning to attend and has a truck and can take up supplies, please let Lisa Light and Jo Cosby know.

Every year the Wasatch Woolpack Handspinners hold a retreat where we spin, make friends, connect with friends we haven’t seen for a while, eat good food, get prizes, relax and spin some more.

This year’s retreat will be held June 11-15 at Jo and Fred Knowlton’s farm (Notlwonk Springs) in Cornish Utah.  This is a lovely grove of old cottonwoods with lots of room to spread out and lots of shade.  There is the side benefit of being able to see the sheep and buy fiber at Knowlton’s shop. Other vendors are welcome, and we usually have around 4-6 vendors selling fiber.

Sunday, June 16th, is clean-up day. We will provide breakfast on this day. (Yes, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are provided all 3 full days)

The fee is $100 for all 3.5 days for guild members, $135 for non-members; $40 for a one-day attendance for members, $50/day for non-members which covers the cost of renting Porta Potties, food, and some prizes (most of the prizes are brought by attendees). This must be paid by June 1st.

We have a scholarship available for someone who would like to attend buy can’t due to financial reasons. Please let Lisa Light know either on the registration form or a direct email to Endofthewhorl @ gmail.com if you need to claim the scholarship.

As always, we will have our prize tent, so start looking now for that fiber you once loved but no longer want/need, fiber related books, etc. that you would like to donate. For anyone who doesn’t know what prize tent is, after EVERY meal we ring a bell and like good little sheep dogs we form a semi circle for announcements. Our treat then comes in the form of a surprise gift from the prize tent. We will also have an auction. All money raised in the auction goes towards a scholarship for the following year’s retreat, or to help cover costs, etc. If you have anything fiber related to donate to the auction, it’s very appreciated!

One last thing, so far we have a workshop on growing a water-wise dyer’s garden planned. (No extra cost.) We are working on more, but we need your help! If you would like to teach us something, please email me, Lisa, at endofthewhorl@gmail.com ASAP!

What to expect at Retreat:

Spinning: lots of spinning.

Food: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  A Brunch on Sunday.

Prizes!  We have a prize tent and after each meal we line up to get our prize.  Informal teaching sessions.  There are plenty of spinners willing to share their knowledge. Usually there is some kind of workshop(s) These will be announced before retreat.

Massages! The incomparable Jodie will be offering massages again this year! I believe it’s $1/minute, but I’ll let you know for sure in the welcome email. I know you won’t want to miss it!

Workshops: Lots of stuff to learn

Show and Tell of projects you’ve completed in the last year that you would like to share,

A Fiber Exchange where your fiber is made into something by another attendee and brought back for show and tell next year. Details will follow.

A Silent Auction where you can bring things that can be auctioned off and proceeds will go to the guild.

What is expected of attendees:

To come and spin, spin, spin! (so you need to bring your wheel and a chair) Bring prizes—Fiber related things you would like to get.  Bringing your personal things.  Bringing an easy up canopy If you would like.  Sometimes it rains.  Sometimes there are special activities like workshops, or the mermaid pool challenge for combo spinning (all will be explained later) so if you would like to participate in any of these activities you would need to bring the required materials.
